The Gold Britannia Coin has experienced notable changes throughout its 30-year history. Initially struck in 22-karat gold with a .917 gold content, the Royal Mint increased the gold content to 24-karat, .9999 pure gold starting in 2013. Additionally, the obverse design has evolved to reflect updates to Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait.
