Product Details
The first gold bullion coin to rival the South African Krugerrand was the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. Initially introduced in 1979 as a one-ounce coin, the 1/2 oz version was added during a subsequent expansion of this popular coin program. Currently, the 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin is available for purchase from Veldt Gold, where you can use Bitcoin, Monero, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies for payment.
Issued in 1986, the 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin was part of the second expansion phase of the Gold Maple Leaf series. The first coins were produced between 1979 and 1982 exclusively as 1 oz versions.
Starting in November 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint expanded the series by adding 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins. The 1/2 oz coin was introduced in 1986, followed by a 1/20 oz coin in 1993 and a 1 Gram coin in 2014.
Each 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin listed by Veldt Gold comes with a variety of year-of-issue date marks. The specific year you receive will depend on availability at the time of purchase, with dates ranging from 1986 to 2016.
The reverse side of the 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin features the iconic sugar maple leaf, the national symbol of Canada, prominently displayed in government logos and on the national flag.
The obverse side depicts the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Depending on the coin's year, you’ll see the Queen at different stages of her reign. Coins from 1986 to 1989 feature a 39-year-old Queen, while those from 1990 to 2002 depict her at age 64. Coins minted from 2003 onward feature Susanna Blunt’s portrayal of the 79-year-old Queen Elizabeth II.
All 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins are produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. Established in 1908 with a single facility in Ottawa, the Royal Canadian Mint expanded in 1980 to include a second facility in Winnipeg to boost its production capacity.
